What is Survey Junkie?

Headquartered out of Glendale, California, Survey Junkie is a market research firm founded in 2013. Now, you might’ve actually come across them in the past, just under a different name.

They originally went under the names Active Measure and Blue Media Ventures. It wasn’t until 2018 that they officially changed over to Survey Junkie.

Is Survey Junkie legit?

Sometimes a few bad apples can spoil the whole bunch. This is especially true with online survey companies.

Some users of survey sites have experienced not receiving points, having their accounts suspended for no reason, or not being eligible for prizes at the last minute. With that being said, it’s normal to be skeptical of a survey site.

We looked up Survey Junkie on the Better Business Bureau website and discovered that they had a B rating and an average of 4.32 stars out of over 1,750 user reviews.

BBB gives Survey Junkie 4.32 out of 5 stars

Here’s an example of a BBB review for Survey Junkie’s mobile app.

This was a brand new review, and the user received a $10 gift card in just a single week. This is pretty fast compared to some other websites. This satisfied user also mentioned that other Survey Junkie members enjoyed the instant payouts after each survey and not having to wait.

Don’t use a VPN or Proxy or it won’t work

Another recent review stated that the user was unable to access the $15 they earned after being denied for security reasons. Since they were unable to email or contact customer service, there wasn’t any way for them to try to resolve this issue.

However, Survey Junkie staff replied with an excellent point — don’t use a VPN or proxy if you use survey websites.

Using a VPN or proxy network is a common reason users get their accounts suspended. Since Survey Junkie is only available to certain countries, some people try to get around this by switching their IP address to make their computer appear as if it’s in one of those countries. It’s against terms of service, so it should be avoided.

So far, so good. Survey Junkie has plenty of positive reviews, some negative ones, and a good BBB rating. Next, let’s look at how you can sign up and begin using the platform yourself.

How does Survey Junkie work?

To get started with Survey Junkie, begin by visiting the homepage or signing up through email or with your Facebook account.

Tip: If you plan on signing up for multiple online surveys you should think about setting up a separate email address. It’s a quick way to optimize the survey process a little by cutting down on inbox clutter which helps you earn money faster.

You have to answer a five-question survey on the next page to help Survey Junkie figure out what surveys it should give you. You gain 25 points for signing up and an additional 50 points for completing your profile questionnaires.

Good user interface and overall experience

The dashboard and overall appearance of Survey Junkie is one of the best we’ve seen for a survey website. Not only that, it’s just really simple. The available surveys are the first thing you see, and there’s no clutter.

It tells how many points you’ll earn from each survey, along with an average time for completion. The checklist on the side keeps you up to date with what you can do for extra points, and it tracks your earnings.

Like any other similar survey sites, you will have to complete a quick qualification survey before entering the real one. If you don’t qualify, Survey Junkie will award you 2 points for your time. You can expect to be earning anywhere from 25 to 90 points per survey that you are able to take, though.

What rewards does Survey Junkie have?

Right off the bat, I enjoyed that you can quickly gain points on Survey Junkie and that you are awarded them instantly. You don’t have to wait like other websites, which can be discouraging.

Every point is equivalent to $0.01, so 100 points earns you $1. Unfortunately, it takes 1,000 points to cash out for the minimum $10 payout threshold.

You can choose between transfer to your PayPal account, bank transfer, or e-gift cards from your favorite stores, such as Amazon and Target.

The ability to withdraw money directly into your bank is very unique. You won’t earn a lot of money with surveys, but it’s nice to be able to withdraw it anyhow.

What is SJ Pulse?

Survey Junkie Pulse, also known as SJ Pulse, is an additional program that helps Survey Junkie collect more customer information. By installing this as a browser extension, or using the Survey Junkie app on your mobile device, you allow Survey Junkie to understand:

  • What third-party sites you visit
  • What consumer products you shop for
  • Which advertisements you watch, and which ones you ignore

In other words, it’s another great way for you to earn money from this online survey site without having to complete new surveys or wait for survey invitations!

Limited reward options

However, that’s where the rewards stop. There aren’t any giveaways, sweepstakes, or big prizes.

On other platforms that offer flat-screen televisions or trips, for example, it creates an extra incentive to consistently look for different surveys to complete.

What are Survey Junkie’s surveys like?

The surveys themselves ask you questions about various products and services or have you watch videos and complete other tasks.

One small critique we do have is that there is no progress bar. This is standard on other survey websites we’ve reviewed, such as Harris Poll Online. Besides that, the surveys are easy to complete and nothing out of the ordinary.

Focused on customer support

An overlooked aspect of survey websites is their customer service. How will you be able to contact them in the case of an issue? What resources do they have to help you? Survey Junkie has you covered in this case. Their help page has a great amount of information to answer any questions that you may have.

The FAQ covers points, rewards, and general account questions. On the sidebar, you’ll have access to sections on technical issues, PayPal, email confirmations, and more. Finally, there’s a contact form you can use to ask any other questions and to get in touch with their support team.

Altogether, the user experience of the website from signing up to completing surveys is very smooth. There were no major hiccups, points registered quickly, and it has everything you need without the fluff.

Pros and Cons

Pros of Survey Junkie

These are the main features that stood out to us during our Survey Junkie review.

  • Ease of getting started: There’s no complicated or long registration process. You enter your email address or connect with a social media account, and you’re instantly an active member on the website. You’re given points for signing up and entering your personal information, and there are Survey Junkie surveys ready to take.
  • It’s easy to earn: Every point is equivalent to $0.01, and you earn anywhere from 25 to 90 points for each survey you complete. You’re able to make withdrawals when your Survey Junkie account balance is over $10, so it shouldn’t take you much time.
  • PayPal and bank deposits: Not every survey platform makes it so easy to get your cash like Survey Junkie does. You can have your money withdrawn into your bank account or sent to you as PayPal cash.

Cons of Survey Junkie

Overall we had a great experience with this survey company, but we want you to be aware of some issues we did notice.

  • There have been complaints about rewards or points. However, it appears that Survey Junkie works hard to resolve complaints.
  • No grand prizes: Throughout other survey websites, we appreciated the giveaways, sweepstakes, and similar features because they added to overall earning potential and user engagement. Unfortunately, Survey Junkie only offers cash rewards at the time of this review update.

Wrapping up our Survey Junkie review

We thoroughly enjoyed reviewing Survey Junkie. They are easily one of the better survey sites we’ve tested so far.

Despite being fairly new compared to other research companies that have been around for decades, there’s plenty of potential for earning extra money.

Signing up is practically instant, so if you need to earn cash quickly, you can start right away. Like any other platform, you’ll have to qualify for online surveys on various products and services, but you can expect to see a few a day that you can take.

These will reward you anywhere from $0.25 to close to a dollar and will take 15 minutes on average from what we experienced.

It won’t make you rich or make much more than minimum wage, but it can help you save for things, have a little more coffee money, or your social life.

There’s no sweepstakes, vacations, or special rewards — just the basics. You can get e-gift cards to your favorite stores and shops, or withdraw points as cash through PayPal or your bank.

Overall, we recommend that you try Survey Junkie if you’re interested in making some extra cash on the side of your job or while studying.
