Any person that has spent a considerable amount of time surfing the internet has had the thought of making money online.

A quick Google search will give you a multitude of earning opportunities scattered across the World Wide Web. In such a saturated environment, how does one find legitimate and reliable earning avenues?

A lot of companies have tried to give provide an answer to that question. One such solution has helped pave the way for the paid surveys industry.

Our LifePoints review looks at one of the earliest websites to offer paid surveys online, who launched their site as a way to help both businesses and the general public at the same time.

How does LifePoints help?

LifePoints provides companies and businesses with an opportunity to conduct accurate market research according to their research parameters. The collected data is reliable and helps these companies develop an understanding of the customer and their needs.

For online participants, LifePoints provides a free and easy way to earn a little cash while through paid surveys, offering an engaging and rewarding experience where participants are paid for their opinion.

What is LifePoints?

LifePoints was launched in 1946 as Nation Family Opinions and later acquired by Lightspeed Research. LifePoints partners with over 1500 companies, in 70 different countries. As of 2019, they boast a total of 5.5 million active registered users across the globe.

Gaining prominence during the internet boom, LifePoints’s sole purpose was to provide companies with research data.  The rise in internet users looking for ways to earn money online made it an earning opportunity for the customers who completed the surveys.

Getting Started with LifePoints

Like most survey panels, LifePoints runs on a point system. You earn ‘LifePoints’ through surveys and other ways listed on their site.

Earning LifePoints

When you complete your first survey after registering, you get 33 LifePoints. This survey is more of a demographic and behavioral survey that assesses and compiles your profile.

Your profile helps determine the surveys that best fit your demographic, and once you have completed the initial profile survey, LifePoints’s system automatically provides a list of all the surveys you might potentially qualify for, on your homepage. Each survey also provides an estimated time of completion as well as how many LifePoints you can earn by completing the survey.

Your profile survey helps you pre-qualify for some surveys, however, most surveys have a pre-screening questionnaire that assesses whether you qualify for the survey or not. This screening survey selects participants that fit the research parameters set by the company requesting the survey.

LifePoints has a good qualification rate, and users have reported that they qualified for over one-third of the surveys – great odds in the survey industry.

You may also qualify and participate in product tests and long-term research projects. These have a higher payout than traditional surveys and can be extremely rewarding.

Sweepstakes Entries

LifePoints also offers other ways of earning points and rewards. Their quarterly sweepstake has a prize pool of $2000, in the form of LifePoints. This pool is divided among 103 lucky winners.

You earn sweepstake entries in several ways, especially by successfully completing surveys.  .

Winners are notified through an email that details instructions on how to claim the reward.

Redeeming your LifePoints

The rewards section details how many LifePoints you have and where you can redeem them. The minimum is 345 points, enough to get you a $4 Starbucks voucher.

The largest redeemable reward is worth 4025 LifePoints, amounting to about $46.

It’s best to wait until you can redeem the larger rewards as they provide better value. LifePoints can be redeemed as cash via PayPal.

Who is LifePoints for?

LifePoints is for people looking to earn some cash over a relatively long period of time. The site doesn’t pay much and it’ll probably take you around 2 months to reach $50.

It’s basically like earning pocket change for completing 30-40 minutes worth of surveys each day.

Is LifePoints legit?

LifePoints’s credentials speak for themselves. With a principal investment from the world’s largest advertising and PR firm, it is as legit as a survey site can be.

LifePoints is not accredited by the Better Business Bureau (BBB)  though they partner with some of the world’s most renowned companies, across 70 countries.

Most people that register with LifePoints, or have been using it for a while, are satisfied with it. These users understand how the survey industry works and are happy with the money they are earning.

LifePoints Review Positive

So what is with all the bad reviews?

LifePoints Review Negative

The negative reviews started pouring in after the LifePoints website announced a change in ownership. Countless users started reporting spam emails that redirect users to the registration page rather than actual surveys.

Some people reported that they were banned or their accounts were suspended because of ‘fraudulent activity’ when they did not do anything wrong. While they may be right, they were probably unknowingly or unconsciously breaking the website’s terms and conditions.

LifePoints FAQ's

It is always a good practice to go over the terms and conditions and/or the FAQ section to understand the company and its best practices.

However, LifePoints could rework their process and make the FAQ section more visible, to help ensure that new users are familiar with the company and have realistic expectations from their experience with LifePoints.
Lifepoints FAQ

Advantages of LifePoints

  • User Requirements: LifePoints’s minimum age of registration is 14 and allows users to register from almost 200 countries.
  • Fast Payments: LifePoints offers several quick and convenient options for redeeming your LifePoints. For example, if you want to redeem your Starbucks voucher, you will receive it within 24 hours (maybe even immediately).
  • Good Rewards: You can receive anywhere between 35 to 250 points for completing surveys. 23 points are equal to $1 so if you do the math, those are some great earnings.
  • Additional Earning Opportunities: LifePoints provides additional ways to earn points, like sweepstakes entries and their referral program. They also provide product testing and long-term projects for high-return opportunities.

Disadvantages of LifePoints

Our LifePoints review wouldn't be complete without pointing out a few of it's downsides.

  • Account Suspensions: A lot of users have reported that their accounts have been suspended for no reason. While they probably did nothing wrong consciously, they inadvertently may have done something that goes against LifePoints terms and conditions. It is LifePoints’ duty to make sure their customers understand the best practices and they should do a better job of communicating with their users.
  • Restrictions: LifePoints receives surveys from countless companies across the globe. However, some countries offer more surveys than others. This is an issue for people that belong to the lesser represented countries as they will not be able to qualify for a lot of these surveys due to demographic and geographic restrictions.
  • Takes Time: It can take a long time to accumulate points, especially if you’re filling out surveys that take 30-40 minutes each. It may take you 2-3 months before you even reach the cash-out limit.
  • Limited Accessibility: Many available surveys are not accessible on mobile devices, so you’ll probably have to rely on your computer. Furthermore, they introduced, and then discontinued their mobile app, further restricting how and where users can complete the surveys.
  • Reward Limitations: Not all of the rewards are available for everyone. For example, the referral system doesn’t work in the UK, and a Starbucks voucher will be of no use in a country with no Starbucks.

Is LifePoints worth your time?

LifePoints is a pioneer in the survey industry and has the necessary credentials to prove their legitimacy.  However, this doesn’t change the fact that it is still a survey panel and most survey panels are the same – they don’t pay as much as you’d like.

You’re better off using your time to earn money through freelancing or by getting a part-time job. But, if you have decided that you want to earn money through paid surveys, our LifePoints review found the site to be definitely worth your time.

Make sure you apprise yourself with our survey taking best practices and understand their process before getting started, to avoid any problems in the future.
